100LT REFLUX PLATE COLUMN OPERATION.
Still operating procedure:
- The elements are 3kw ea (13amps per element at full power) 26Amps total. So yes , you need a direct feed from your main DB board, with dedicated breakers, per element. The controller dials work on a 0-10 scale. 1=10%, 2=20% ….10=100% (pro-rata element power etc. )
- Starting a typical distilling run, would go as follows :
You run both elements on full power 10=100% until you feel, heat on the column, up to plate no.3 (approximately 40 mins depending on your fermentation abv), then you turn off 1 element and drop the other element to 3-4=30-40% , with full reflux , to stabilize the column, for 20mins, then you decrease water flow slowly to the reflux condenser , until you start getting heads distillate, flowing from the parrot. Do your relevant heads cut, then proceed to collect hearts and so on.
